Peace Begins With Me

Hello there,

Mother's Day kicked off National Women's Health Week, which was also the official start of Women's Health Month. Plus, May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. So, we are in the season of the year that is focused on cultivating healthy awareness for our bodies, hearts, emotions, minds, and one another.

In my personal meditation practice in the mornings, as well as in my group yoga classes on Sundays and Wednesdays, I've been practicing a meditation I learned from Reggie Hubbard on the Yoga International website. Like all meditation, it's very simple in instruction. And it's pretty easy to do for those of you who do not like to meditate. My 16-year-old does this meditation for 3-5 minutes several times a week.

Peace Begins With Me

  • Set a peaceful-sounding timer for 3 minutes.

  • Sit tall on some firm cushions or in a chair with a pillow supporting your back.

  • Rest the backs of your hands on your knees with your fingers relaxed.

  • Take a deep inhale and exhale completely out of your mouth. HAAAAAAHHHH.

  • In your mind, Say the mantra Peace Begins With Me.

  • Peace- touch your index finger to your thumb.

  • Begins-touch your middle finger to your thumb.

  • With- touch your ring finger to your thumb.

  • Me- touch your pinkie finger to your thumb.

  • Maintain a slow peaceful rhythm.

  • Let your breath flow in and out smoothly.

  • Repeat the mantra and the movement of your fingers until your timer goes off.

Notice, do you feel more peaceful?

Set the intention to practice this Peaceful Meditation again tomorrow (and then again tomorrow, and again tomorrow...making this your go-to meditation practice).

This is a portable meditation that can also be done while walking down the street, standing in line, or riding the subway.

Send me an email and let me know how you felt after this meditation.

If you want to feel peaceful together please join one of my Online Yoga Classes-

Sunday Slow Flow from 9:30-10:45 a.m. or Wed Morning Stretch from 9-10 a.m.

Wishing you peace, love, harmony and increased happiness every day,

XO Elyce
