National Yoga Month & Self-Care Awareness Month

Hello and welcome to September

September is National Yoga Month and Self-Care Awareness Month. WOW! Two of my favorite things to talk about. Clearly, this is my month to shine. I hope you will be an advocate for yourself (a definition of self-care) and shine with me. Here are a few categories of self-care to explore this month: Emotional self-care, such as accepting compliments without argument or pushback, just a simple Thank You, maintaining healthy boundaries, giving yourself permission to take a pause, saying “no” to things that cause unnecessary stress, or setting up a weekly coffee date with a friend. Physical self-care, such as prioritizing sleep, adopting an exercise routine you can stick with, drinking water, choosing healthy and nourishing foods over highly processed ones, or sitting in the sun. Spiritual self-care, such as spending time in nature, meditating, attending a religious service, practicing yoga, incorporating regular acts of kindness into your day, cleaning your space, or keeping a gratitude journal. What jumps out at you from the lists above? Whatever it is, from whichever category it, is I encourage you to commit to it for the month of September. At the end of the month, we can check in a see if:

  • Your health improves

  • Your emotional stability improves

  • Your outlook on life improves

  • You smile more

  • You live your life with purpose and joy

  • You become your own best friend

  • You love yourself
